Best Golf Cart Lift Kit- Buying Guide

Below are some of the things you should consider before buying a golf cart lift kit.

1. Amount of lift

You have to clearly know the amount of lift that you want for your golf cart. Different types of lift kits provide a varying amount of height. The most common kits are the 3” 4” and 6” kits which are also readily available.

The types of tires you desire to fit on the golf cart also define the amount of lift because bigger tires require a higher lift. A 3- and 4-inch lift can fit tires up to 20 inches. While the 6” has the capability to fit larger tires of up to 24 inches in diameter.

2. Type of lift kit.

We have different types of lift kits depending on how it’s installed on the golf cart.

  • Block Lift Kit

this is the easiest type of lift to install because it just involves fitting a spacer between the front leaf spring, and the frame of the golf cart.

The lift is also affordable because it only carries the metal block and longer screws to fasten the spring onto the golf cart frame. It’s most preferred by people who desire a minimal lift, but it can also accommodate bigger tires.

This type of lift retains most of the suspension stiffness and inherent stability of the golf cart.

  • Spindle lift Kit

Like its name suggests this one just replaces the spindle that holds the hub. With one that comes with longer arms, providing the needed raise.

It’s the easiest to install bar the block lift kit and doesn’t interfere much with the stability of the golf cart.

  • Drop axle lifts kit

This type of kit replaces the front axle of the golf cart. Every other stock hardware, e.g., the spindle, bolts, and kingpin that were screwed to the replaced axle, fits back onto the new one.

The downside to this type of lift kit is that it adds a bit of stiffness to the ride, and it’s also difficult to install. It’s however moderately cost-effective because you get to use most of your stock parts.

  • A-Arm lift kit

This is the most popular type of lift. The name comes from the appearance of the main suspension assembly that looks like the letter “A”.

The kit lifts the whole front suspension of the golf cart. And no stock part fits back onto the suspension except, the shocks, the steering column, and the tie rod.

It’s easier to install compared to the drop lift axle. And provides a more comfortable ride. Because it comes with all components tuned by the manufacturer.

3. Compatibility

Always check the compatibility of the lift kit to your model of the golf cart. Some lift kits are purposely made for specific models. But most of them are compatible with different models, depending on the year of manufacture

Closing Remarks

Just like using a rangefinder, a lifted golf cart adds to a better experience and performance at the golf course. Besides that, a well-lifted golf cart with nice chrome wheels is good for the eye.

With the proper tools, most of the lifting is a DIY, to give your golf cart that unique look, and better capability.

Note that lifting the rear part of the golf cart involves a similar method for all types of lift kits. To raise the rear part, use a riser to increase the distance between the spring and the axle.
